Victims and Survivors of Crime Week

(ST. JOHN’S, NL), May 27, 2019 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Intimate Partner Violence Unit is participating in the 2019 Victims and Survivors of Crime Week in Labrador West.

Victims and Survivors of Crime Week in Canada is taking place from May 26 – June 1, 2019, and the theme for this year’s initiative is; The Power of Collaboration. The purpose of this week is to raise awareness about issues facing victims and survivors of crime and the services, programs, and laws in place to help them and their families.

The RNC Intimate Partner Violence Unit is committed to reducing Intimate Partner Violence through early identification, mitigation and intervention, and building trusting relationships with victims and communities. As part of this commitment, the Unit has received funding through the Department of Justice Canada Victims Fund to implement their project; Raising Awareness and Education of Intimate Partner Violence and its Impact on Victims in Labrador West: A Law-Enforcement Collaboration with Community Groups.

The initiative will involve;

–          Intimate Partner Violence training for RNC members in Labrador West.

–          Cultural sensitivity training to more effectively provide supports with local Indigenous communities.

–          Engagement with community groups to increase awareness about RNC Intimate Partner Violence supports and services.

–          Collaboration with community groups to discuss potential barriers for reporting, and responding to, Intimate Partner Violence.

–          Identifying additional opportunities through partnerships, to mediate and mitigate Intimate Partner Violence in Labrador West.

As part of this initiative, the RNC Intimate Partner Violence Unit will be holding a Community Presentation on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church, 610 Hudson Drive, Labrador City, NL. All are welcome to attend.
