(St. John’s, NL), July 17, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Patrol Services Division is providing an update on a previously reported apparent case of animal cruelty.

On Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 11:30am, RNC Patrol Services Division responded to a report that a CBS resident found the remains of a dog submerged in a small salt water pond off of Pond Road in CBS. The body of the dog was recovered with the assistance of the CBS Fire Department. The dog, in advanced stages of decomposition, was found to have twine around its legs

The animal remains were examined by the office of the Province’s Chief Veterinarian and the results indicated that the animal was a coyote. It appeared the coyote had been shot which was most likely the cause of death. It is not known whether the animal was legally hunted or not and it’s not known how the animal came to be in the pond where it was found. This matter has been concluded.
