UPDATE – RNC Investigating Aggravated Assault

(St. John’s, NL) September 18, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit is continuing to investigate an aggravated assault in downtown St. John’s.

Saturday, September 15, 2018 at approximately 3:55 a.m., officers with RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division, Forensic Identification Services, and Criminal Investigation Division responded to a report of a disturbance at the intersection of George Street and Adelaide Street in St. John’s. Upon arrival, police located a man with serious injuries who remains in hospital at this time. Two other males were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It is not known at this time whether the individuals involved in the incident were known to each other. No charges have been laid at this time.

Investigators are seeking any witnesses to the incident. Investigators are also asking anyone with cell phone video or photographs from Saturday morning between 3:40 a.m. and 3:55 a.m. in the area of George Street at Adelaide Street to contact the RNC. Furthermore, taxi drivers who were in the area at the time who have dash cams are asked to contact the RNC.

Investigators have obtained photos from a witness and are seeking the public’s assistance identifying one of the men. The man is described as in his early 20s with short dark hair and facial scruff and was wearing a dark grey and black jacket, dark shoes, jeans and a white shirt under his jacket at the time of the incident. The man fled the area with a female in the direction of New Gower Street.
