RNC Warning Community of Counterfeit Bills

(St. John’s, NL), November 30, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Economic Crime Unit (ECU) are warning businesses in the community of multiple reports of counterfeit bills in the metro region.

The RNC ECU have received multiple reports of counterfeit cash being used to purchase goods at businesses in the Northeast Avalon region. The counterfeit bills being used have been large denominations, mostly one hundred dollar bills appearing to be United States of America currency, and have either Russian or Chinese markings on the bill.

The RNC reminds the community that checking money protects everyone, and by checking your money, we can keep counterfeit bills out of the cashier’s till, and out of your change. Please visit the Bank of Canada website at Counterfeit Prevention – Bank of Canada for more information on counterfeit protection.

The RNC ECU ask that anyone who may have information to assist the investigation contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
