RNC Traffic Stop Results in Arrest in Labrador West

(Labrador City, NL), June 2, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) made an arrest following a traffic stop in Labrador West yesterday.

On Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 2:05 pm, RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on the Trans Labrador Highway (TLH),  approximately 30 kilometers East of Labrador City. The patrol officer determined that the vehicle was travelling in excess of 130 km/h in the 80 km/h speed limit zone. The officer proceeded to conduct a traffic safety stop with the vehicle on the TLH.

The patrol officer determined that the male operating the vehicle was prohibited Canada-wide from operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation into the event, a 44-year-old male from Goose Bay was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while prohibited and breach of court order. In addition, he was issued summary offence tickets under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) in relation to operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding 51+ km/h in excess of the speed limit. The vehicle was seized from the scene and the accused has been held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
