RNC Traffic Stop Leads to Weapons Offences

(ST. JOHN’S, NL), October 31, 2019 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) have made an arrest following a traffic stop in the center city.

On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at around 10:00 pm, RNC Operational Patrol Services Division completed a traffic safety stop in the Mundy Pond Road area. In the process of the traffic safety stop, officers observed a tazer inside the vehicle. A 35 year old man operating the vehicle was arrested at the scene without incident. Subsequent to the arrest, officers located a firearm inside the vehicle.

The 35 year old man was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of possession of a weapon contrary to prohibition order, unsafe storage of a firearm, tampering with a serial number, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and other weapons offences.
