RNC Track Down Suspects of Armed Robbery

(St. John’s, NL), March 11, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) have arrested two suspects of an armed robbery, which occurred shortly after noon in the metro region.

Shortly after noon today, March 11, 2021, Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a convenience store on Barbour Drive in Mount Pearl, following reports of an armed robbery at the business. A woman had entered the store presenting a knife, demanding cash and cigarettes. After obtaining cash and cigarettes, the woman exited the store and proceeded to flee the area in a vehicle operated by a man.

A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle in a residential driveway on Empire Avenue. The man operating the vehicle drove to the rear of the property, then proceeded to flee on foot in the area.  After a short track, the RNC OPS and Police Dog Service (Gunner) apprehended the suspect. Officers also apprehended a woman in the area in connection with the investigation. Officers were able to confirm that the vehicle involved had been reported stolen earlier today.

As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old man is charged with flight from police, robbery and theft of a motor vehicle. Also, a 33-year-old woman is charged with robbery, disguise with intent and theft of a motor vehicle. Both individuals have been held to appear in provincial court.
