RNC Request Assistance In Waterford Valley Homicide

(St. John’s, NL), July 8, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit (MCU) is requesting the assistance of the community in connection with an ongoing investigation in to a homicide in the Waterford Valley area of St. John’s.

On Sunday, May 30, 2021, at approximately 8:30 pm, officers with RNC’s Operational Patrol Services (OPS), Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and Criminal investigation Division (CID) responded to the Waterford Valley area of St. John’s after a deceased man was located in the area near a trail system. The deceased was later identified to be 68-year-old Michael KING of St. John’s. After consultation with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the RNC MCU is investigating Mr. KING’s death as a homicide.

As the investigation progresses, the MCU are continuing to validate information and seek assistance from the community. Investigators are requesting information related to four vehicles that were seen on the parking lot at the rear of the Waterford Hospital, near the beginning of the trail which travels toward Topsail Road.

The Vehicles in question, and times they were seen, are as follows:

  • May 29, 2021, 4:39-4:48 pm, dark SUV
  • May 30, 2021, 12:38-12:42 pm, red Jeep (Wrangler style)
  • May 30, 2021, 3:32-3:34 pm, dark SUV
  • May 30, 2021, 8:22-8:30 pm, light coloured hatchback style sedan
