RNC Police Dog Service Assist in Overnight Arrest

(St. John’s, NL), May 12, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Police Dog Service (PDS) supported Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) with an arrest overnight in St. John’s.

On Friday, May 12, 2023, at approximately 3:10 am, RNC OPS responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence located in the downtown area of St. John’s. Responding officers were informed that a male had assaulted a female at that location. On arrival, officers determined a male had fled the area on foot. Officers located a female on site with minor physical injury.

RNC PDS attended the scene to assist patrol officers with locating the male that had fled on foot. After a police dog track in the area, the male was located by RNC PDS and RNC OPS under the deck of a residence a short distance from police response. The male was arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation into the event, a 42-year-old male from Badger’s Quay has been charged with assault, property damage and failure to comply with a release order. The accused has been held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
