RNC On Scene Of Suspicious Death In Capital City

(St. John’s, NL), August 26, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) are on the scene of a suspicious death in the downtown area of St. John’s.

On Thursday, August 26, 2021, at approximately 6:35 pm, officers with the RNC Operational Patrol Services responded to a report of an assault in progress near Carter’s Hill in St. John’s. Responding officers were informed that a male had sustained serious injuries.

On arrival, officers located a male with serious injuries lying on the ground in the area. Paramedics with the Ambulance Department pronounced the male deceased at the scene a short time later. The death is being treated as homicide. The RNC will work with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the cause of death.

A female in the area was taken in to custody by patrol officers in connection with the death of the male who had succumbed to his injuries. The male and female were believed to be known to each other.

The RNC Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Identification Services attended the scene, and are currently continuing the investigation in to the event. The RNC will provide more information as the investigation progresses.
