RNC Mounted Unit Welcomes New Officer

(St. John’s, NL), September 17, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Mounted Unit welcomes its newest officer with a graduation ceremony today.

On Friday, September 17, 2021, the RNC welcomed its newest officer to the Mounted Unit with a graduation ceremony held at Rainbow Riders Therapeutic Riding Centre in St. John’s. Constable Gwen Stacey will officially join the unit today after completing an extremely demanding fifteen week Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Equitation Training Course under the direction of Retired Constable George Horan. Thank you to Retired Constable Horan for his dedication to the elite training of our members, and the overall safety and wellbeing of the Mounted Unit.

Constable Stacey has been a member of the RNC since 2008, and has worked in Patrol Services, the Mental Health Mobile Crisis Response Team, Criminal Investigation Division, Marine Unit and the File Management Unit. An avid swimmer and mental health advocate, Constable Stacey has completed the Canadian Mental Health Association of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Tickle Swim for Mental Health on numerous occasions.

This week Constable Stacey received additional training and an evaluation test by Sergeant Kristopher McCarthy of the Toronto Police Service Mounted Unit, the largest mounted unit in the country. The RNC expresses its heartfelt gratitude to Sergeant McCarthy for his commitment to ensuring our officers receive the highest level of training.

Congratulations to Constable Gwen Stacey and the Mounted Unit team. We all look forward to your collaborative efforts in promoting safe and healthy communities in the years to come.
