RNC Member Charged with Breach of EPO

“On Monday, July 30, just after 4:00 p.m. information was received that RNC Constable Steve CURNEW had breached a condition of an Emergency Protection Order (EPO). As a result of that investigation, supervisors with RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division located and arrested CURNEW just before 5:00 p.m. without incident. CURNEW was held at the St. John’s City Lockup overnight and appeared at Provincial Court this morning.

The details of the EPO are private and we will not be providing information on the alleged breach aside from stating that there was no violence in the incident. CURNEW was not on duty at the time of this alleged EPO breach and is currently non-operational and on leave.

As this was a breach of the Family Violence and Protection Act, there have been no criminal charges laid and I am not able to provide any further information for the privacy of the other parties involved.”

-RNC Chief Joe Boland
