RNC Make Arrest Related to Capital City Homicide

(St. John’s, NL), June 16, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) have charged a male with second-degree murder in connection with a homicide in St. John’s this week.

On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at approximately 2:30 am, members of the RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a residence on Old Bay Bulls Road in St. John’s in relation to a request for police assistance. On arrival, officers located a male on the property with serious injuries. The male was taken to a hospital by ambulance to seek medical attention, but was pronounced deceased a short time after arrival.

In consultation with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the death of the 41-year-old male from St. John’s was treated as homicide. The RNC Criminal Investigation Division engaged a Major Case Management Team to investigate the event.

On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at approximately 5:00 pm, officers arrested 39-year-old Dwayne GINN of St. John’s in the downtown area of St. John’s without incident. GINN has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the homicide on Old Bay Bulls Road. He was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
