RNC Make Arrest In Connection With Downtown Restaurant Assault

(St. John’s, NL), August 30, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit (MCU) have arrested a man in connection with a violent assault at a restaurant in downtown St. John’s.

On Thursday, August 19, 2021, shortly after 3:00 am, officers with the RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a restaurant located on Water Street in St. John’s following a report of a disturbance at the establishment. On arrival, officers located a male who had visible injuries. The other parties involved in the disturbance had left the area prior to police arrival.

The responding officers’ investigation in to the incident revealed that the injured male was assaulted by another male inside the restaurant. The suspect male also pulled out what is believed to be a firearm, pointing the weapon at the victim, and using the weapon to assault the victim.

As a result of the investigation in to the event, on Friday, August 27, 2021, at approximately 8:40 pm, a 32-year-old man from New Brunswick was arrested by the RNC outside of a service station in the downtown area of St. John’s. He has been charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and imitation of a firearm. The man was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
