RNC Make Arrest in Connection with CBS Robberies

(St. John’s, NL), January 14, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division (CID) have arrested a man in connection with a pair of robberies in Conception Bay South (CBS) this week.

At approximately 12:45 am on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, RNC Operational Patrol Services responded to an armed robbery at a service station on CBS Highway in CBS. A man entered the business and approached the service counter stating he was armed with a weapon, demanding cash. The suspect obtained cash, then fled the area in a vehicle.

Just before 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, RNC Operational Patrol Services responded to a report of an armed robbery at a business on Topsail Road in CBS. A man entered the establishment and approached the service counter presenting a weapon. The man obtained cash then exited the building. The suspect fled the area in a dark coloured sedan, travelling east on Topsail Road.

As a result of the investigation, officers were able to identify the man responsible for the robberies in CBS. The suspect was located today around noon, operating a dark coloured sedan in the metro area. Officers attempted a traffic stop with the suspect, at which time the suspect failed to stop for police, colliding in to two police vehicles before fleeing the area. The suspect was located a short time later in the area of Bell’s Turn in St. John’s, where officers arrested the man in connection with the pair of robberies in CBS.

The 31-year-old man is charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of property obtained by crime, assault with a weapon, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, court order breaches, and Highway Traffic Act offences. Officers also executed three outstanding arrest warrants for the man. He has been held to appear in Provincial Court.
