RNC Make Arrest in Armed Bank Robbery

(St. John’s, NL), November 24, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division has charged two men in connection with an armed bank robbery.

Last night, at approximately 7:45 pm, the RNC responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at TD Bank on Kelsey Drive in St. John’s. Two men are alleged to have entered the bank, during regular business hours, armed with a firearm and demand cash. One of the men discharged a firearm during the robbery but there were no injuries.

The two men fled in a pickup truck, which went off the road on O’Leary Ave as they were attempting to get away on the snow covered roads. One man was immediately apprehended by patrol officers and identified as 33 year-old Travis WADE of St. Johns. The second man, 31-year-old Adam HAYDEN of Conception Harbour, fled on foot and it is alleged that he attempted to take control of a vehicle at gunpoint that was stopped in nearby traffic. The driver of that vehicle, an off-duty RCMP (B-Division) officer, physically subdued the suspect. Neither the off-duty RCMP officer or his passenger were injured. A responding RNC patrol officer arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody.

WADE is charged with: Armed Robbery, Forcible Confinement, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Disguise with Intent, Assault with a Weapon, and Failing to Comply with Court Orders. HAYDEN is charged with: Armed Robbery, Disguise with Intent, Failing to Comply with a Firearm Prohibition Order, Intentionally Discharging a Firearm, and multiple other firearms related offences.

Both men were held to appear at Provincial Court in St. John’s today.
