RNC Make Arrest Following Single-Vehicle Collision

(St. John’s, NL), May 5, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) made an arrest this morning following a single-vehicle collision in St. John’s.

On Friday, May 5, 2023, at approximately 7:55 am, RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) attempted to conduct a traffic stop with a vehicle driving dangerously on Brier Avenue in St. John’s. The vehicle, a grey Honda Civic, did not stop, and sped away from the police vehicle. A short time later, the RNC OPS located the vehicle in the ditch in the area of the Team Gushue Highway.

RNC OPS approached the suspect vehicle, observing a male and female to be occupants of the vehicle. The male operator, a 22-year-old from St. John’s, was placed under arrest by responding officers. Both occupants were transported to the hospital to seek medical attention for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

As a result of the investigation into the event, the 22-year-old male from St. John’s has been charged with flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, breach of a release order, and breach of probation order. Officers also confirmed that the accused was wanted in connection with the same list of charges regarding an event that occurred in St. John’s on May 3, 2023. The accused has been held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
