RNC Make Arrest Following Sexual Assault in Metro

(St. John’s, NL), September 22, 2020 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit (CASA) arrested a man in connection with a sexual assault in St. John’s.

On Friday, September 18, 2020, at approximately 9:00 am, members of RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a report of an assault in the Cowan Heights area of St. John’s. Reports indicated that a man had forcefully entered a residence and sexually assaulted a female youth, then left the residence. Responding officers located the suspect nearby and he was placed under arrest. The victim did not know the suspect.

Subsequent to an investigation by CASA on Friday, a 29-year-old man was charged with break and enter, sexual assault, forcible confinement, and breach of court order. The man has appeared in provincial court and now awaits a bail hearing.
