RNC Make Arrest Following Robberies in St. John’s

(St. John’s, NL), January 25, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services (OPS) arrested a youth male following two reports of robbery in St. John’s overnight.

On Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at approximately 12:40 am, members of the RNC OPS, Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Police Dog Service (PDS) responded to a report of a robbery in progress at a gas station located on Portugal Cove Road in St. John’s. Responding officers were informed a male suspect entered the business and presented a weapon while demanding cigarettes. The suspect proceeded to take other merchandise from the store before fleeing on foot.

As officers launched an investigation in to the robbery on Portugal Cove Road, a second report of robbery was received from a gas station located on Newfoundland Drive in St. John’s. Officers were informed that a male suspect had entered the store demanding cigarettes while uttering threats. The male fled that location on foot with merchandise from the store. It was determined that this event had occurred at approximately 12:30 am.

Investigators believed the robberies to be linked, as the suspect descriptions were consistent at each location. Through a collaborative effort by officers with RNC OPS, CID and PSD, the male suspect was located at a residence a short distance from the area of the robbery.

As a result of an investigation in to the events, a 13-year-old male from St. John’s has been charged with robbery and failure to comply with a court order in connection with each event. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
