RNC Make Arrest Following Downtown Robberies

(St. John’s, NL), April 19, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) made an arrest following two robberies in the downtown area of St. John’s yesterday.

On Monday April 18, 2022, shortly after 9:00 am, RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred at a business on George Street West in St. John’s. A male suspect had uttered threats inside the business while demanding cash. The suspect fled on foot without obtaining any money.

At approximately 9:15 am, a second report of a robbery was received by the RNC from a business a short distance away on Water Street. A male, fitting the description of the suspect of the previous event, had uttered threats while demanding cash. The suspect left the business on foot with some cash.

Responding officers located a male in the downtown area fitting the description of the male suspect. Officers detained the individual without incident.

As a result of an investigation in to the events, a 40-year-old male from St. John’s has been charged with robbery in connection with each incident. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
