RNC Make Arrest Following Disturbance in Torbay

(St. John’s, NL), January 24, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) made an arrest following a lengthy containment after a disturbance in Torbay yesterday.

On Sunday, January 23, 2022, at approximately 6:50 am, the RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a report of a potentially armed male in the area of Gosse’s Lane in Torbay. Shortly after arrival to the area, responding officers determined the suspect male was inside a residence on Gosse’s Lane. Officers proceeded to contain the property, attempting communication with the individual.

Just before 3:30 pm, officers entered the home and took the male in to custody without incident. Officers remained at the scene continuing the investigation.

As a result of an investigation in to the event, a 36-year-old male from Torbay was charged with assault, breach of a court order, careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, discharging a firearm, and other firearms offences. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court on the matter.
