RNC Make Arrest Following Armed Robbery

(ST. JOHN’S, NL), October 29, 2019 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) make an arrest following an armed robbery in St. John’s.

On Monday, October 28, 2019, at approximately 9:20 am, RNC operational patrol services division (OPS) responded to a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store in the West end of St. John’s. On arrival, responding officers were informed that the suspect presented a weapon and had left the area in a dark SUV. Officers were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. Through the course of the investigation, responding officers were able to identify a 24 year old man to be involved in the robbery.

At approximately 3:30 pm, OPS responded to a call of a motor vehicle collision in the West end of St. John’s. The dark SUV involved was the subject of several traffic complaints and was also suspected to be involved in a hit and run collision. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed that it had been reported stolen. The operator had left the scene of the collision prior to police arrival. With the assistance of containment by OPS, RNC K9 Unit was deployed in the area to attempt to locate the operator of the dark SUV, who had reportedly fled on foot. A short time later a 24 year old man was arrested at a residence in the West end of St. John’s.

The 24 year old man has been charged with armed robbery, possession of property obtained by crime, theft under $5000.00 and court order breaches. He has been held to appear in provincial court.
