RNC Make Arrest After Multiple Threats of Violence

(St. John’s, NL), September 10, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) unit have arrested a male in connection with 12 incidents of threats of violence in the metro region.

The RNC CASA was engaged to investigate incidents of phone calls involving threats of sexual violence spanning from August 26 to September 9, 2021. The RNC received multiple reports of persons receiving phone calls from a male not known to them, involving harassment, obscenity and threats to cause harm to the individuals.

As a result of the investigation in to the events by the RNC CASA, officers arrested a 59-year-old male from St. John’s at a residence in the east end of the city on Thursday evening, September 9, 2021. The accused has been charged with indecent communications, harassing communications, and uttering threats in connection with 12 separate events. The male was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.

The RNC CASA continue to investigate related reports, and the RNC is of the belief more events of this nature have occurred in the community. Investigators ask anybody who has experienced a similar event to contact their local police service. The accused is not believed to be known to the victims, and the act is deemed to be random in motivation.
