RNC Lay Charges Related to Intimate Partner Violence

(St. John’s, NL), November 17, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services (OPS) and Major Crime Unit (MCU) made an arrest following an investigation following a report of intimate partner violence in St. John’s.

On Sunday, November 14, 2021, at approximately 8:00 pm, officers with the RNC OPS responded to a residence in the downtown area of St. John’s after receiving reports that a disturbance had occurred. On arrival, responding officers located a male and a female inside the home, observing that the female had visible injuries. Officers also determined that the male was carrying a concealed weapon while communicating with police.

The RNC MCU and Forensic Identification Services (FIS) were engaged to support the investigation by RNC OPS.

As a result of an investigation in to the event, a 27-year-old male from St. John’s was arrested and charged with assault, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement, choking, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and resisting arrest. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.
