RNC Lay Charges Related to a February Firearms Incident

(St. John’s, NL), June 29, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division have laid charges in connection with a firearms-related event, which occurred in late February of 2022.

On Friday, February 25, 2022, at approximately 6:30 am, RNC Operational Patrol Services responded to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s after receiving a report that a female had arrived with a gunshot wound. Responding officers attended the hospital, where the 20-year-old female was undergoing medical treatment. The RNC Criminal Investigation Division was engaged to investigate the event.

As a result of the investigation of the event, a 36-year-old male from St. John’s was arrested on Sunday, June 26, 2022. He has been charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and other firearms-related offences. The accused was released from custody to appear in Provincial Court on a later date.
