RNC Lay Charges Regarding Historical Sexual Violence

(St. John’s, NL), January 6, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit have laid charges in connection with sexual violence believed to have occurred in 1994.

In November of 2018, the RNC received a report in relation to historical events of sexual violence, which is believed to have occurred in Conception Bay South (CBS) in 1994. The report indicated an adult male engaged in sexual violence upon a child. The RNC’s Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit launched an investigation in to the events.

As a result of an extensive investigation in to the report, on January 5, 2022, a 74-year-old male from CBS was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and corrupting children. The accused has been released from custody on conditions, set to appear in Provincial Court on a later date.
