RNC Lay Charges in Connection with Sexual Violence

(St. John’s, NL), January 14, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit have laid charges in connection with sexual violence upon a child in St. John’s.

In March of 2021, the RNC received a report in relation to historical events of sexual violence, which is believed to have occurred in St. John’s from 2019 in to 2020. The report indicated that a youth male engaged in sexual violence upon a child. The RNC’s Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) Unit launched an investigation in to the events.

As a result of an extensive investigation in to the report, on January 5, 2022, a youth male from St. John’s was arrested and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, exposure, and making explicit material available to a child. The accused has been released from custody on conditions, set to appear in Provincial Court on a later date.
