RNC Lay Charges Following Investigation of Weapons Offence

(St. John’s, NL), December 2, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services (OPS) have charged two males in connection with an investigation in to a disturbance in St. John’s.

On Saturday, November 6, 2021, at approximately 10:25 am, officers with the RNC OPS responded to the area of Smithville Crescent and Elizabeth Avenue in St. John’s following a report of a disturbance in the area. On arrival, officers located and identified the individuals involved in a disturbance in the area.

As a result of an investigation at the scene, responding officers arrested and charged a 19-year-old male from St. John’s with assault with a weapon, property damage, and possession of a prohibited weapon. The accused was held in custody to appear in Provincial Court.

On December 1, 2021, as a result of a continued investigation in to the event, a 21-year-old male from St. John’s was arrested and charged with uttering threats and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The accused was released to appear in court on a later date.
