RNC Lay Charge of Second Degree Murder In St. John’s

(St. John’s, NL), August 27, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal investigation Division (CID) Major Case Management Team have charged a female from St. John’s with second degree murder.

On Thursday, August 26, 2021, at approximately 6:35 pm, The RNC Operational Patrol Services responded to a report of an assault in progress in the street near Carter’s Hill in St. John’s. Responding officers were informed that a male had sustained serious injuries.

On arrival, officers located a male with serious injuries lying on the ground in the area. Paramedics with the Ambulance Department pronounced the male deceased at the scene a short time later. The death of the 49-year-old male from St. John’s is being treated as homicide. The RNC will work with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the cause of death.

A female in the area was taken in to custody yesterday evening by patrol officers in connection with the death of the male who had succumbed to his injuries. The male and female were believed to be known to each other. The RNC Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Identification Services attended the scene, continuing the investigation in to the event.

As a result of this ongoing investigation, the RNC has charged a 28-year-old female from St. John’s with second degree murder. She will appear in Provincial Court at some time today.
