RNC Lay Attempted Murder Charge Related to Goulds Shooting

(St. John’s, NL), June 30, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division has laid a charge of attempted murder in connection with a shooting in St. John’s.

On Sunday, June 19, 2022, the RNC Criminal Investigation Division (CID) launched an investigation following a shooting in the Goulds area of St. John’s. The incident resulted in a 21-year-old man from St. John’s sustaining serious injuries, including gunshot wounds.

Investigators made two arrests in connection with the event within 48 hours of responding to the crime scene. 20-year-old Brandon CHAFE is charged with aggravated assault, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and multiple other firearms offences. 22-year-old Thomas BARNES is charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle. Both accused individuals have had a first appearance in connection with these charges.

The RNC CID has now laid additional charges upon one of the accused involved in this event. On the afternoon of June 29, 2022, officers charged 20-year-old Brandon CHAFE of St. John’s with attempted murder, robbery, and uttering threats. The accused is currently in custody, and will appear in Provincial Court in relation to the charges.
