RNC Labrador West Make Arrest for Drug Trafficking

(Labrador City, NL), May 16, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) have made an arrest in relation to drug trafficking in the Labrador West region.

In February of 2023, RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS), Labrador West detachment, made an arrest in connection with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after stopping a male operating a snowmobile in the area of Reid Street in Labrador City. Officers also seized a quantity of unknown substance at the time of the arrest. At the time of this event, the 47-year-old male operator from Wabush was charged with impaired driving offences, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and resisting arrest. The unknown substance was sent to a laboratory for analysis.

On May 11, 2023, the analysis of the unknown substance confirmed the substance to be cocaine. The investigating officer determined the quantity indicated possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine.

On May 11, 2023, at approximately 11:00 am, officers located the accused male at a home in Labrador City. The 47-year-old male from Wabush was placed under arrest and charged with possession of controlled drugs and substance for the purpose of trafficking.
