RNC Investigation into Assault Results in Arrest in Corner Brook

(Corner Brook, NL), October 26, 2023 – Assault charges have been laid by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) after a man sought treatment for injuries in Corner Brook.

On Wednesday (Oct. 25) shortly after 1:30 p.m., RNC patrol officers responded to Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook following a report that a male had arrived at the site with serious injuries. Responding officers believed the injuries to the 54-year-old being treated at the hospital were the result of an assault with a weapon. RNC Police Dog Service (PDS), Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and Criminal Investigation Division (CID) were engaged to support the investigation.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., RNC patrol officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the area of Cabot Lane in Corner Brook. On arrival, officers located a 39-year-old male believed to be responsible for the assault. The male was arrested without incident. He has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The accused has been held in custody to appear in Provincial Court in relation to the offences.

The 54-year-old male victim remains at Western Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
