RNC Investigating Shooting Incident

(St. John’s, NL), February 5, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit is investigating a weapons offence that occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Yesterday, just after 3:00pm, the RNC responded to a report of shots being fired in the Cochrane Pond area. Three adults were in the area for winter leisure activities when they say multiple shots were fired in their direction. When officers arrived on scene, they observed multiple bullet holes in a pickup truck belonging to one of the complainants.

There were no injuries sustained by any of the individuals and the pickup truck was seized to be analyzed by RNC’s Forensic Identification Services. It is not known at this time whether this was an intentional or accidental shooting as officers were not able to locate the person(s) responsible. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide information anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
