RNC Investigating Serious Collision Involving Pedestrian

(St. John’s, NL), May 23, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Accident Investigation Division is investigating a motor-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in St. John’s.

On Saturday, May 21, 2023, at approximately 3:30 pm, the RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) responded to a report of a collision that had just occurred in the parking lot area of a pharmacy located on Lemarchant Road in St. John’s. Responding officers were informed that a vehicle had driven into the building at that location, and collided into a pedestrian in the process. The pedestrian, a 42-year-old female from Mount Pearl, was outside the entrance of the building when the collision occurred.

On arrival, the female pedestrian remained trapped beneath the vehicle involved, which had come to a rest inside of the building. The operator of the vehicle, a 77-year-old male from St. John’s, was located inside the vehicle at the scene. The male operator was not physically injured as a result of the collision.

Paramedics and members of St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) worked together to release the female from the collision scene, immediately transporting the female to the Health Science Centre (HSC) with serious injuries.

RNC OPS engaged RNC Accident Investigation Division to investigate the event, and officers request that anyone with information or video footage contact the RNC.

The RNC requests that anyone with information to assist this investigation contact 709-729-8000, or report anonymously with Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
