RNC Investigating Serious ATV Accident

(ST. JOHN’S, NL), August 9, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Accident Investigation Division (AI) are investigating a serious all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident which occurred between Goulds and the Trans-Canada Highway area of St. John’s last week.

On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at approximately 10:00 pm., members of RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS) and RNC AI responded to a single vehicle collision involving a ‘side-by-side’ ATV in the area of Northern Pond Road, between Goulds and the Trans-Canada Highway, in St. John’s. RNC officers, St. John’s Regional Fire Department and Eastern Health Ambulance Department worked together to locate the scene of the accident.

On arrival, officers observed the ATV involved in the collision with significant damage. The operator of the vehicle, a 41-year-old man from St. John’s, sustained serious injuries, and remains in the hospital being treated. The passenger, a 33-year-old man from St. John’s, sustained minor injury.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, and the RNC Accident Investigators are asking witnesses, or anyone with dash camera footage in the area of Northern Pond Road around the time of the collision, to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
