RNC Investigating Hit and Run Collision

(St. John’s, NL), July 23, 2019 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Traffic Services is investigating a hit and run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

On Sunday, July 21, 2019, around 6:30 pm, members of the RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division and Forensic Identification Section responded to the area of Columbus Drive at Blackmarsh Road, St. John’s, in relation to a report of a collision. On arrival, officers were able to confirm a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. The vehicle involved reportedly left the area without stopping at the scene of the collision. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The RNC Traffic Services are asking for the assistance of the public with locating the suspect vehicle involved in this collision. It is described to be an older model Jeep Patriot, dark in colour, with minimal damage to the front end of the vehicle. The operator is described to be a man, possibly in his thirties, with a beard. The vehicle was last seen travelling East on Blackmarsh Road.

Traffic Services are looking for any CCTV or dash camera footage in the noted area around the time of the collision. Anyone who has information which may assist the investigation is asked to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
