RNC Investigating Heavy Equipment Break and Entries

(St. John’s, NL), January 14, 2019 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is actively investigating two break and entries involving the use of heavy equipment.

On Sunday, January 13, 2019, at approximately 5:20 am members of the RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division, Forensic Identification Section, Police Dog Service, and General Investigation Unit responded to a business on the east end of Elizabeth Avenue in relation to a break and entry. On arrival, officers observed significant damage to the entrance area of the business. Responding officers located heavy equipment which was still running on a nearby parking lot. The suspects had fled the scene.

Today, just before 5:45 am, Operational Patrol Services Division, Forensic Identification Section, and General Investigation Unit responded to a business on Kelsey Drive in relation to a break and entry. In similar circumstances, there was significant damage to the front entrance of the business, and responding officer’s located heavy equipment which was still running on a nearby street. Witnesses say three males fled the scene after using the heavy equipment to break in to the business.

The RNC General Investigation Unit is actively investigating these incidents and ask anyone who has information to assist this investigation, or has CCTV footage in the noted areas at the time of each offence, to call the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
