RNC Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

(St. John’s, NL), March 23, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Traffic Services Section is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday afternoon.

Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 4:45 pm, officers with RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division, Traffic Services Section, Forensic Identification Services and firefighters with St. John’s Regional Fire Department and Eastern Health Paramedics, responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on Pitts Memorial Drive in Mount Pearl. The collision involved two vehicles, one of which was severely damaged when it collided with a utility pole. The vehicle that collided with the utility pole was carrying three men, including the 21 year old driver, whom we regret to inform, died from his injuries at hospital. The two passengers were also taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Both vehicles were travelling west bound on Pitts Memorial Drive in the area of Richard Nolan Drive at the time of the collision and the cause of this accident are under investigation. The RNC will not be releasing the identity of the deceased man and we offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
