RNC Investigating Fatal Fire in St. John’s

(St. John’s, NL), April 5, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Accident Investigation Division is investigating a residential structure fire in St. John’s.

On Saturday, April 2, 2022, at approximately 11:15 pm, RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to a report of a residential structure fire on Coronation Street in St. John’s. On arrival, officers observed a residence on Coronation Street engulfed in flames, with St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) and paramedics on the scene. Patrol officers supported the fire suppression efforts of SJRFD with traffic and scene control.

A lone occupant was removed from the residence by SJRFD. The 60-year-old male from St. John’s was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

The RNC Criminal Investigation Division were engaged to investigate the event. Investigators will refer to the Office of the Chief medical Examiner to determine the male’s cause of death.

The RNC sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
