RNC Investigating Death Following Hunting Incident

(St. John’s, NL), December 21, 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit is investigating a sudden death following a hunting incident involving a firearm.

This morning shortly after 9:30 am, the RNC received a report that a man, who was hunting with another man, had been shot with a firearm. Officers with RNC’s Operational Patrol Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Forensic Identification Services along with ROVERS Search and Rescue and air resources from Fire and Emergency Services, responded to a wooded area near Robert E. Howlett Memorial Drive in St. John’s. The man was pronounced deceased when first responders reached the location of the incident.

There have been no charges at this time, but RNC’s Major Crime Unit is continuing their investigation. The next of kin has been notified but the identity of the 49 year-old St. John’s man is being withheld at this time.
