RNC Investigating Attempted Robbery in Metro

(St. John’s, NL), August 3, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) General Investigation Unit (GIU) are investigating an attempted armed robbery which occurred in St. John’s.

On Saturday, July 31, 2021, just before 6:00 pm, officers with the RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS), Police Dog Service (PDS), and Forensic Identification Services (FIS) responded to a mobile vendor in the area of Churchill Square in St. John’s after receiving a report of an attempted armed robbery that had just occurred. A lone suspect gained access to the mobile vendor, approaching the employee with a weapon, demanding cash. Without obtaining any money, the suspect fled the area on foot, travelling in the direction of Rowan Place.

The suspect is a male, described to be about 25 years of age, and approximately five feet and six inches tall with black hair. He was wearing blue jeans, a quarter zip horizontally striped orange and white sweater, sneakers, and had a brown backpack. Investigators are requesting that businesses in the Churchill Square area review any CCTV to check on whether there was footage of a male fitting the noted description. Furthermore, anybody in the area of Pine Bud Avenue or Churchill Square with CCTV or dash camera footage around the time of the incident, please contact the RNC with any footage of the suspect.
