RNC Investigating a Violent Assault in the Metro Region

(St. John’s, NL), December 19, 2022 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crimes Unit (MCU) are investigating a violent assault in centre city, St. John’s.

On December 18, 2022, at about 10:00 p.m. the RNC responded to a request for assistance in the area of Linden Place, St. John’s following a report of suspicious activity in the area. An additional call for service was received a short time after from the area of Beech Place, St. John’s.

Members of RNC Operational Patrol Services (OPS) responded to both locations and located a 20-year-old man who had sustained series injuries following a violent assault. The man was taken to hospital and is currently in stable condition.

The RNC deployed resources from its Criminal Investigation Division (CID), including Major Crime Unit (MCU), K-9 Services, Forensic Investigation Services (FIS) and the RNC Interviewing Unit (IU). This event is not believed to random and the RNC do not believe there to be any immediate concerns to public safety at this time.
