RNC Focused on Education and Safety

(St. John’s, NL), October 28, 2020 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) continue to maintain an open line of communication with parties involved in the strike action of Dominion workers, with a focus on education and safety.

As the strike action of Loblaws employees continues, the RNC remains focused on communication and education as it relates to public safety. While the RNC recognizes the strike action will affect the operation of day-to-day activity of Loblaws, and that there will be delays, it is imperative that all parties involved are educated on the legal parameters related to obstructing activity. We will remain steadfast in building relationships to promote a safe and educated environment. The RNC maintains a neutral stance on any matter of strike action.

The RNC will utilize resources, such as patrol officers, traffic services, and the public order unit to promote safety and health in the course of any event of this nature. The public order unit is highly trained in de-escalation and crowd management, with the goal of preventing any incident while maintaining clear and open communication. The safety of all parties impacted, such as; Dominion workers, truck drivers, public motorists, members of the community, small business employees, as well as our officers, will remain paramount.

All communication with strike action leadership has been respectful, and we appreciate the desire to ensure safety and health within our communities.
