RNC Engaged in Canada Road Safety Week: Not Worth The Risk

(ST. JOHN’S, NL), May 18, 2021 – Today marks the beginning of Canada Road Safety Week, a 7-day national campaign aimed at making Canada’s roads the safest in the world. This year, the annual awareness campaign is focused on behaviours that put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users most at risk.

The theme for Canada Road Safety Week 2021 is “Not Worth The Risk”. Each unsafe driving behaviour behind the wheel involves the potential risk of fines, suspensions, impounds, injuries, or even death. You could lose your money, points, your license, your vehicle, your physical or mental capacities, your wages or your life. Worse yet … you could be taking all these away from others you share the road with. Whatever the reason, there is no excuse that justifies an unsafe driving behaviour. It is simply #NotWorthTheRisk.

We want Canadians to remember that the decisions they make, and the consequences of their actions, don’t just affect them. They impact their family and community too.

“Operating vehicles in our communities today is so routine that we often overlook the significant power we hold with that steering wheel in our hands. Even the slightest distraction can change a person’s life forever.  Behaviours such as impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and other high-risk activity has already had tragic impacts right here in our communities. Nobody is immune to the effects of dangerous behaviour on our roads, and the RNC will continue working to partner with our community as a whole to change behaviours, because it’s not worth the risk.” – Cst. James Cadigan, RNC Media Relations Officer

The RNC is proud to be participating in this year’s Canada Road Safety Campaign, and we will be participating in various projects and enforcement activities throughout the week, continuing our traffic safety momentum. While this public safety initiative is part of a national effort to help advance Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2025 to make Canada’s roads the safest in the world, we are confident that our local efforts will help make the roads in our communities among the safest in Canada. We all play a role in diminishing risk on our roads, and the RNC looks forward to working together to build safe and healthy communities.
