RNC Corner Brook Region Advising Motorists to Use Caution at Intersections

(Corner Brook, NL) – October 3, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Corner Brook Region is advising motorists to use caution at:

  • the intersection of Union Street and O’Connell Drive
  • the private roadway turning out of the Salvation Army Temple parking lot onto O’Connell Drive.

On September 18, 2017 the intersection of Union Street with O’Connell Drive became right turn only, as did the private roadway turning out of the Salvation Army Temple onto O’Connell Drive.  It was determined that attempting to make left turns at both of these locations was problematic as drivers were crossing two lanes of traffic to complete their turn.  These left turns were dangerous and have resulted in vehicle collisions.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Corner Brook Region has been actively monitoring these locations and has continuously enforced the Highway Traffic Act by issuing a high number of Summary Offence Tickets for violating the new signage.  The RNC have been and will be continuing to monitor these areas with ongoing enforcement as it relates to any offences observed under the Highway Traffic Act.
