RNC Continue Investigation of Violent Event in St. John’s

(St. John’s, NL), March 14, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Investigation Division have made multiple arrests, and continue to investigate a violent event, which occurred at a St. John’s high school.

On March 9, 2023, just before noon, RNC Operational Patrol Services Division (OPS), Forensic Identifications Services (FIS), Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Police Dog Service (PDS) responded to a report of an assault that had just occurred at Prince of Wales Collegiate high school on Paton Street in St. John’s. A 16-year-old male had sustained serious injuries and required medical attention. The injured male was transported to the Janeway Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The RNC CID assembled a Major Case Management Team to investigate the event. At this stage, multiple arrests have been made, with the following charges:

15-year-old male of St. John’s, arrested March 9, 2023

  • Attempted Murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Disguise with intent
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Breach of court order

18-year-old Tyler GREENING of Paradise, arrested March 12, 2023

  • Accessory to an offence
  • Attempted murder (party to the offence)
  • Aggravated assault (party to the offence)
  • Assault with a weapon (party to the offence)

16-year-old male of St. John’s, arrested March 13, 2023

  • Attempted murder (party to the offence)
  • Aggravated assault (party to the offence)
  • Assault with a weapon (party to the offence)

The 16-year-old accused will appear in Provincial Court today in relation to the charges laid.
