RNC Constable Convicted of Assault Has Been Suspended Without Pay

(St. John’s, NL), January 13, 2023 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Chief Patrick Roche has suspended RNC Constable (Cst.) Noelle Laite effective January 12, 2023, following a Provincial Court conviction.

In March, 2022 Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) NL released findings in relation to an assault investigation involving an RNC officer, Cst. Noelle Laite. As a result of the SIRT-NL investigation Cst. Noelle Laite was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC) with: assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, and choking.

Cst. Noelle Laite was placed on administrative duties immediately following the incident and remained on administrative duties pending the outcome of the court proceedings.

On January 11, 2023 the Provincial Court Judge’s decision was handed down, with Cst. Noelle Laite being found guilty of Assault and Assault Causing Bodily Harm. Effective January 12, 2023, RNC Chief Patrick Roche has suspended Cst. Noelle Laite without pay.
