RNC Checkpoint Results in Multiple License Suspensions

(St. John’s, NL), August 30, 2021 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services (OPS) completed a traffic checkpoint resulting in multiple license suspensions and an arrest over the weekend.

On Saturday, August 28, 2021, between 3:00 am and 4:00 am, officers with the RNC OPS conducted a traffic safety checkpoint on Pitts Memorial Drive. During the one hour initiative, officers checked 150 vehicle for the operator’s sobriety, valid driver’s license, insurance and registration.

As a result of the traffic safety checkpoint, three operators were issued a seven-day driver’s license suspension for impaired driving, and their vehicles were impounded. In addition, a 61-year-old male was arrested in connection with an outstanding arrest warrant. That man was held to appear in Provincial Court.

The RNC is dedicated to promoting safety on the roadways throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, and will continue initiatives of this nature in our efforts to end impaired driving. If you plan to consume alcohol or cannabis, do not get behind the wheel.
