(St. John’s, NL), October 1 , 2018 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Operational Patrol Services Division has charged a woman in connection with making a false police report.

On Sunday, September 30, 2018, just before 1:30am, Patrol officers responded to a residence on Canada Drive in St. John’s in relation to a report to police that an individual had been stabbed. When officers arrived on scene, they were unable to locate the female victim. While officers were on scene, a grey Ford Focus was observed driving at a high rate of speed toward the officers. The vehicle did not come into contact with either officer or police vehicle and fled the area. A Suspect Apprehension Pursuit was initiated by additional responding officers when the operator of the Ford Focus failed to stop. The pursuit was terminated a short time later in the interest of public safety.

A short time later, a patrol officer observed the same ford focus driving in the center of the city. The officer did not attempt to initiate a traffic stop in an effort to prevent a secondary pursuit. Minutes after locating the vehicle, the officer observed the Ford Focus collide with the Powerplex Recreation Facility on Crosbie Road. A 26 year old St. John’s woman was conveyed to hospital in connection with the collision and has since been released from hospital and into Police custody facing numerous charges: Dangerous Driving of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop Motor Vehicle, Assault with a Weapon, Public Mischief by Falsely Reporting an Offence, and Breaching Court Orders.
