RNC Charge Man with Attempted Murder

(ST. JOHN’S, NL) September 5, 2017 – The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Major Crime Unit has arrested and charged a 35 year old St. John’s man for Attempted Murder.

On Saturday, September 3, 2017 just after 11:00 pm, officers with RNC’s Patrol Services Division responded to the Health Sciences Center in relation to an assault. A female victim had been seriously injured in a domestic disturbance at a residence in Mount Pearl and conveyed to hospital by a friend. The woman has since been released from hospital.

35 year old Paul MAHER, who had been reported missing following the incident, was located by investigators last evening and was arrested and charged in connection with that assault. MAHER was held overnight and will appear at Provincial Court today facing the following charges: Attempted Murder; Uttering Threats; Assault Causing Bodily Harm; Choking with Intent; Unlawful Confinement; and beaching Court Orders.
